About our cause

text_fieldsText Block

People support neurological research for all sorts of reasons, all of them important. We have all been affected in some way by someone close to us that has a neurological condition. The impact of the last few years will be felt by all of us for some time to come, and research has been hit hard. Your support ensures that our researchers can continue to do what they do best, finding answers to help the thousands Kiwis affected by neurological conditions.

Any donation today helps neuroscientists make breakthroughs tomorrow.

1 in 3 Kiwis suffer from a neurological condition, which means at some stage in life, we're all impacted by it - so let's get behind the research that can make a difference."

David Savage - Supporter and fundraiser, Tour Aotearoa 2021

The Neurological Foundation of New Zealand is an extraordinary pillar of hope, driving vital research into complex neurological conditions that touch so many lives. I am deeply grateful for the dedication and compassion behind their work, especially as they continue to investigate diseases like Corticobasal Degeneration, which took my uncle from us far too soon.

Rosemary Everitt, Copenhagen Marathon, 2025

Neurological conditions are a cause close to so many people’s hearts, including my own.  Numbers are growing with more and more people being affected by them. I'm proud to have run the Auckland Half-Marathon to raise money for the Foundation, and a HUGE thank you to those who donated! "

Emma Davies, Research Coordinator, Auckland Marathon, Nov 2025

Did you know 1 in 3 Kiwis are affected by neurological conditions?

Neurological conditions encompass a wide range of disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, and nerves and by supporting Bowling for Brains you're helping neuroscientists to:

Gain a deeper understanding of the many complex causes of neurological conditions - what goes wrong, how and when and where and why it does, and what we can do to fix it.

Make groundbreaking discoveries that can transform the landscape of treatment and care, cures and prevention.

Discover ways we can support our cognitive health and well-being. It can lead to strategies for maintaining brain health and preventing cognitive decline, thus improving the overall quality of life for individuals as they age.
